Andrew Krzysiek
Principal - AIA
Andrew's ability to run efficient and effective projects can be attributed to his strength as a communicator, great organizational skills and the ability to think on his feet. He is a versatile designer and manager who has been involved in a variety of educational and housing projects, and has volunteered his experience with Habitat for Humanity and the Whatcom Children's Museum.
Andrew graduated from Andrews University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Architecture. He joined Zervas in 1999 and became a partner in 2010.
Jed Ballew
Principal - AIA
Born and raised in Northeastern Oklahoma, Jed Ballew developed a love and appreciation for beautiful architecture early in life by visiting and observing the rich Art Deco and mid-century buildings in and around Tulsa. As an experienced project architect, Jed excels in solving complex problems by blending his creative design sense with an unwavering focus on function. With approximately 25 years of experience, he has worked on a diverse range of project types, including historic preservation, multi-family residential, tenant improvement, and educational facilities.
Jed earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Oklahoma State University in 1999 and practiced architecture in Tulsa until relocating to Bellingham in 2017. Since joining Zervas Architects, he became a Principal in 2020.
His expertise in design is complemented by his belief that the architect’s role is critical during construction. Jed thrives in working with clients and contractors from the initial concept through the delivery of a completed building.
In addition to his professional achievements, Jed is active in the community. He currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Bellingham Planning Commission, a board member and Treasurer for the AIA Washington Council, and a member of the Northwest Washington AIA Advisory Committee. His dedication to both architecture and community service reflects his holistic approach to building a better future.
Amy Zimmerman
Principal - AIA
Amy is a natural leader and has a consistent track record of meeting and exceeding client expectations. She works regularly with repeat clients and is an accomplished designer with a technical proficiency that is matched by exceptional creative abilities.
Amy joined the firm as a permanent employee after receiving her Master of Architecture from Washington State University in 2011. Since working for Zervas she has contributed to a variety of educational, commercial, and residential projects. She is an efficient team player with a high degree of professionalism, organizational and communication skills.
Amy became a Partner of Zervas in 2023 after 13+ years with the firm and is experienced in managing large, complex projects that are representative of Whatcom County.
Chris Bigos
Project Manager
Chris is an accomplished designer with a technical proficiency that is matched by exceptional creative abilities. After a decade with Zervas, he takes on a large, complex commercial project as easily as he manages the design of a new home: with a thoughtful intensity that speaks to his belief in the power of design.
Chris has studied in both Spain and Italy; he received a Bachelor of Arts from Hobart College in 1992 and a Master of Architecture from Washington University in 1995.
Matt Reeves
Project Manager
Matt brings with him the knowledge and skills from a variety of design environments across the State of Washington. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from Washington State University in 2009, and a Master of Architecture degree at the WSU Interdisciplinary Design Institute while working at a local architecture firm.
After graduation in 2011, Matt continued working in Spokane, then Seattle. In 2012 Matt moved to Bellingham and became a member of the Zervas team. While at Zervas, Matt has managed a variety of project types including K-12 schools, higher education, commercial offices and other public entities.
Matt has an interest in learning and implementing innovative technologies in the design field including BIM, GIS, and 3D modeling. He has volunteered to design multiple passive homes for Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County and has participated in the local AIA. Matt is a Building Condition Assessment Certified consultant.
Zach Newhard
Project Manager
Zach's work focuses on regional traditions and adapting them to contemporary styles of living and building. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and their local communities, his completed projects are located throughout the Northwest and Northeast seaboards. Zach's work experiences encompass the full range of budgets, which all inform one another.
Zach earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree at Drexel University in Philadelphia. In the following years, he worked weekdays at architecture firms and weekends volunteering his carpentry work at community outreach centers. Zach loves contributing to the rich fabric of the built environment in Bellingham and Washington.
Dan Lawrence
Project Manager
Daniel has been working in architecture firms for over nine years. During this time, he has worked on a wide array of different projects,including custom single-family homes, offices, large multi-family residential buildings and mixed-use projects. Through the development of the drawings and renderings for these projects, Daniel has gained broad exposure to the inner workings of the design process. With recent experience he has begun to specialize in visualization and modelling; something that has always been a passion of his. Additionally, Daniel has developed his skills in rendering, fee estimation, project management and workflow creation. In doing so, he is well equipped to tackle design projects holistically.
Daniel grew up in southern California and pursued his passion for design at Cal Poly Pomona, earning a BArch degree in 2015.
Edwin Escobar
Drafter
Edwin is a designer with a great interest in the environment. As such, in 2012 he specialized in renewable energy in El Salvador, his country of origin. He developed academic programs for the integration of alternative energy sources in architectural projects and has been a university teacher of courses in architecture, electrical and mechanical engineering, guiding students in projects of photovoltaic systems, biodigesters, water management for human consumption and the control of thermal load in housing of social interest. Edwin has worked for the United Nations Development Program, preparing normative bases for energy efficiency in the design of buildings in tropical environments.
Emma Anderberg
Architectural Associate
Emma grew up in Montana and recently received her M.Arch degree from Montana state University in 2023. While pursuing her undergraduate degree in design she discovered a passion for the complexities of architectural design and all that architecture has to offer.
Emma earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree in 2021 and recently joined Zervas in 2024.
Whitney Madison
Project Manager
Whitney is a highly creative designer who loves living and designing in the Pacific Northwest. She strives to connect people to nature through thoughtful design and the use of natural materials. She is passionate about improving the lives of others through beautiful architecture, regardless of the project type.
She has been the project manager and executor for every phase of projects, with experience in commercial, restaurants, market halls, and high-end residential design.
Whitney earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Oregon School of Architecture and joined Zervas in 2024.
Rondelle Noble
Interior Designer
Rondelle is an artistic and detail driven interior designer who enjoys working with clients on all types and sizes of projects. She grew up in Florida and received her Bachelor of Design in Interior Design from The College of Architecture at the University of Florida, Gainesville. After graduating she migrated west working in architecture firms in Atlanta, Sacramento, and Portland before coming to Zervas in 2006.
Rondelle has experience working on large corporate offices, small tenant improvements, multi-family, institutional and educational projects.
Rondelle recently returned to Zervas after a hiatus and is enjoying being back in a creative, collaborative environment.
Mackenzie Nix
Interior Designer
Mackenzie, a Bellingham local, returned to town after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design from WSU. While pursuing her degree she was required to take some course work in graphic arts. Quickly, she realized how much she enjoyed it, too, and how the combination would improve her skill set as a designer. Not long after she was accepted into WWU’s program and completed her second Bachelor of Arts degree.
Prior to joining Zervas, Mackenzie has over six years of interior design experience working locally for a design and construction firm specializing in hospitality renovation and as lead designer for a residential and commercial architect. Also, as a freelance graphic designer, she has completed several custom design projects for these companies, and, in addition, branding and marketing for a variety of other clients and firms.
Mackenzie chose a career that incorporates innovation and imagination because she is creative and enjoys helping others in unexpected and rewarding ways by enhancing the function and quality of their lives.
